Learn about ETHILON® sutures, including nylon composition, handling characteristics, common surgical applications and skin closure performance.
ETHILON® is a synthetic non-absorbable monofilament suture manufactured from nylon (polyamide). It is commonly used for skin closure and is widely selected for procedures requiring precise wound edge approximation and excellent cosmetic outcomes.
The monofilament construction helps minimise tissue drag and allows smooth passage through tissue. ETHILON® remains one of the most commonly used skin closure sutures across healthcare, cosmetic and veterinary settings.
Depending on the procedure, clinicians may consider PROLENE® for polypropylene monofilament closure, MONOCRYL® for absorbable cosmetic closure or PDS II® where longer-term absorbable wound support is required.
