Learn about PDS II® sutures, including material composition, absorption characteristics, extended wound support and common surgical applications.
PDS II® is a synthetic absorbable monofilament suture manufactured from polydioxanone. It is designed to provide longer-lasting wound support compared with many other absorbable suture materials and is commonly selected where extended healing support is required.
The monofilament construction provides smooth tissue passage and minimal tissue drag, while maintaining tensile strength for an extended period during healing.
Depending on wound support requirements, clinicians may consider VICRYL® for braided absorbable closure, MONOCRYL® for cosmetic subcuticular closure or PROLENE® where permanent non-absorbable support is preferred.
