Learn about MONOCRYL® sutures, including material composition, absorption characteristics, common applications and alternative absorbable suture materials.
MONOCRYL® is a synthetic absorbable monofilament suture manufactured from poliglecaprone 25. It is widely used for soft tissue approximation, subcuticular closure and cosmetic surgery procedures where smooth tissue passage and low tissue reaction are important.
The monofilament construction helps reduce tissue drag and allows the suture to pass smoothly through tissue. MONOCRYL® is frequently selected by surgeons performing cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive procedures.
Depending on procedure requirements, clinicians may consider VICRYL® for braided absorbable closure, PDS II® for extended wound support or PROLENE® where non-absorbable monofilament closure is required.
